Hello Phlockers!
Things are moving right along for the 14th Annual Phlocking of the Phaithful, and we’re very excited – but first, we must thank everyone who made Halfway to Phlocking a success back at the beginning of February. The Fitzgerald Family and the staff at the Commodore Inn and Suites were ready for us – food was fantastic, especially the breakfast buffet, and everyone commented on it. We missed Mr. Ed who was enjoying the sunshine in Florida, but he promises he’ll be back with us next year. Before he left town, he and Jason Fitzgerald were able to hook us up with Landshark Lager – a first for the Phlocking – and we’re hoping to see more Landshark at Mr. Ed’s Bar in June. In 2009, Halfway should be back on schedule for the weekend before the Super Bowl.
The music kicked off early Friday evening and continued through till midnight on Saturday. Our thanks go to KD Moore with “Fingers” Taylor, Johnny Rodriguez, the Corned Beef & Curry Band and the Junkanoo Brothers for making the weekend a success. Thanks, too, to Island Time DK the DJ who generated excitement every time he took the mic! Don’t miss DK’s radio show every Monday evening at www.wbwc.com - 10 PM until 1 AM – spend 4 hours of your favorite Trop Rock artists, interviews, guests, contests!
14th Annual Phlocking of the Phaithful, June 12-15, 2008
Lots of changes – like a new, updated website, designed by Pittsburgher Ken Doerbecker. For more information on Ken’s website design company, Perfection Services, Inc., visit his website at www.psipc.com You can get a preview of this year’s logo, designed by Ken’s daughter, Suzy Doerbecker – and we think this year’s t-shirt will really stand out in the crowd! The website address is the same – www.phlocking.com and the registration form is now available.
Location, location, location – We had a meeting with Jason and Jeremy Fitzgerald to discuss what’s happening at Mr. Ed’s Put-In-Bay location, and learned that there will be a full-scale bar on the upstairs deck. We’re planning to schedule entertainment there, and will also be moving the Saturday lunch from the Skyway to upstairs at Mr. Ed’s. We discussed a very upscale menu and we’re sure everyone will be pleased. The pool and Tiki Bar at the Commodore are being renovated, and we’re hoping everything will be ready for June – if not, we simply move upstairs! If you’re planning to stay at the Commodore Hotel, be sure to make your reservations as soon as possible – www.commodoreresort.com
Another favorite location of Phlockers is the houses at Island Club. The word is the pool at Island Club be completed in time for Phlocking. Be sure to make reservations soon – these houses fill up quickly – www.islandclub.com
And, what everyone has been waiting for……. Entertainment Line-Up The schedule is not yet “set in stone,” but we are ready to announce some of the musicians – Let’s start with some newcomers -
The Jack Mosley Band – Jack had such a good time in 2006 that’s he’s coming back to the Island and bringing the band to kick off his first Great Lakes Tour.
The Calypso Nuts – Robbie and Lynlee have talked about wanting to visit Put-In-Bay during their annual live show on Island time, and this year we can make it happen.
Jerry Diaz – Back for the second time, all the way from Texas! Jerry and Mary are the team behind Pardi-Gras which takes place every January in New Orleans. This is a fantastic, not-to-be-missed event!
And the people who always make Phlocking a great success…..
Latitude – Tom and Michelle Becker, making the trip all the way from Myrtle Beach to bring a little bit of real BEACH music to Ohio. KD Moore, who has rocked Mr. Ed’s Tiki Bar on several very cold Friday evenings, Johnny Rodriguez, aka Mr. Phlocking, will start things off on Thursday evening. The Corned Beef and Curry Band will be back at the Boardwalk with a crazy mix of music. Jim Hoehn id working on travel arrangements at this time, and we’ll have more information in a future update. Of course, count on seeing the Junkanoo Brothers showing up on stage at any time! PLUS a possible, big announcement to come later! And, directly from Bourbon Street in New Orleans, the owners of The Tropical Isle, Pam Fortner and Earl Bernhardt!
